Consulting Essentials: 5 Gadgets for New Consultants

Will B

Most consultants work long hours and travel all the time.  In addition, the time you actually spend working is on client site in weird, frustrating places.   Clients tend to hide consultants in peculiar side-rooms to minimise distraction.

These pieces of kit make that lifestyle a hell of a lot easier.  We have taken the time to ask consultants what they use and we found that these are their most highly recommended products.

Key Ring Charger

You might think you have charging covered with a portable or wall charger.  Wrong.  Firstly, there’s nothing more annoying than leads all around a meeting room.  It also just looks a bit unprofessional.  With this neat little gadget, you can fill your devices with juice and no-one will notice.  Can hold an immense amount of power, too!

Everyone’s got one.  You don’t understand how much laptop work you will doing until you are doing it.  Even if you are someone who doesn’t mind using the finger pad, you will quickly change your mind.  Your digits will be hanging by their tendons after a day’s work and this mouse takes the pain off.  Very lose-able so we have recommended a cheaper option.

Chilly Water Bottle

Chilly are the best in the business. It is 100% worth investing in a good water bottle early on in your career. Not only does this avoid the plastic waste, but this bottle also keeps your drink COLD!  It works just like a flask but in reverse. Awesome.

Laptop case

Just makes you look good.  You obviously don’t want to damage your computer, but more importantly, this thing looks pro when you walk into a meeting room.  You don’t want to be tucking it under your arm like a 6th grader.  Dress for the job you want, not the one you have.

Last but not least.  You never have any spare time as a consultant.  Whether you want to save money on your morning coffee or want just want to have your soup on the move, this is a necessity. DO NOT bother with the 1.2l edition.  Literally no-one needs that.
